Teaching approach
The school’s core values are defined by the 'Three I’s': 'Inclusive, individual, and inspirational'. It aims to provide a transformational, holistic education that fosters a sense of family and community. The school operates as a 'Thinking School', placing a strong emphasis on metacognitive awareness, reflection, and the development of independent, adaptable learners who approach challenges with confidence and resilience.
Programmes
The academic curriculum is designed to be rich, varied, and intellectually ambitious, catering to pupils from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. Lower School (Years 7-8) pupils follow an innovative curriculum based on the National Curriculum, while Year 9 serves as a foundation for GCSE studies. At GCSE (Key Stage 4), pupils study core subjects—English, mathematics, and science—alongside at least four optional subjects. The Sixth Form (Key Stage 5) offers a range of A Level subjects and BTEC courses, supplemented by the PULSE programme, which focuses on personal understanding, learning skills, and enrichment.
Outcomes
The school focuses on adding value to every pupil, with a commitment to academic rigour and personal development. In an ISI inspection in May 2022, the school achieved the top category of 'Excellent' in both the quality of pupils' academic and other achievements and the quality of pupils' personal development. Pupils are prepared for university and the world of work through academic study, the PULSE programme in the Sixth Form, and comprehensive careers advice.
Student support
Learning support
The Learning Development Department provides tailored support for pupils, including additional timetabled group lessons. The school also offers support for English as an Additional Language (EAL). These services are integrated into the academic structure to ensure pupils receive the necessary assistance to thrive.
