The Straits Waldorf School

Straits Waldorf School follows the Waldorf Steiner educational philosophy, which emphasizes the development of the "head, heart, and hands." It prioritizes a child-centered approach that respects natural growth stages, introducing formal academics only when children are developmentally ready. The school offers a comprehensive Grade 1–8 program based on the Waldorf Steiner curriculum, which progresses through stages of willing, feeling, and thinking. The curriculum includes core academic subjects such as mathematics, language arts, history, and science, alongside specialized subjects like foreign languages, eurythmy, and handwork. Students create their own main lesson books rather than using standardized textbooks, and the curriculum is adapted to the Singaporean cultural context.

The school utilizes a class teacher system where one dedicated teacher typically guides a cohort from Grade 1 through Grade 8, allowing for deep, individualized attention. This structure is intended to support children who may struggle in large, competitive mainstream classes by providing a nurturing, non-competitive environment that adapts to each student's developmental needs.

The school requires prospective families to visit for a tour before submitting an online application, which includes a non-refundable SGD 200 fee. Following the application, the child attends an evaluation with teachers to determine fit. Successful applicants are notified of their status and must pay an SGD 800 fee to sign the student contract and finalize enrollment.

The school operates Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The fee structure is based on a 12-month calendar year, and fees are payable throughout the duration of the course, including school holidays.

Located in the east of Singapore at Jalan Senang, the school campus provides a dedicated environment for its primary-aged students. The facilities support a range of experiential learning activities, including spaces for gardening, cooking, and various craft-based subjects.

The curriculum integrates various practical and artistic activities, including handwork, woodworking, gardening, and cooking. Students also participate in eurythmy—a movement art involving speech and music—as well as choir and traditional crafts. These activities are designed to develop practical life skills and a connection to the natural world.
