SIS Swiss International School Basel

SIS Basel operates on a bilingual educational concept that has been implemented since 1999, focusing on an independent and value-centred approach. The school aims to foster international-mindedness and personal growth, placing the individual learning needs of students at the heart of its pedagogical efforts. It promotes a multicultural environment that values performance through diversity and provides continuity from kindergarten through to college.

The school offers a continuous educational path including kindergarten (ages 3–6), primary school, a two-year secondary school programme, and a bilingual college. Subjects are taught in both German and English using an immersion method. At the college level, students can choose from specialised subjects including "economics and law," "biology and chemistry," and "physics and applications of mathematics." Additionally, upper-level students may participate in a student exchange programme with other SIS schools abroad.

Students at the bilingual college can graduate with the nationally recognised bilingual Swiss Matura (Hausmaturität) and/or the globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The school reports that students are prepared for continuing their education at college or the international track, with a focus on achieving near-native fluency in both German and English.

Admission to SIS Basel does not require prior bilingualism. The school requires a non-refundable registration fee of CHF 600 for the first child and CHF 500 for each subsequent child to guarantee a place. A sibling discount of 10% on school fees is available for families with multiple children enrolled.

The school follows the official holiday calendar of the canton of Basel-Stadt. The 2026/27 academic year begins on 10 August 2026, with breaks scheduled for autumn (28 September – 9 October 2026), Christmas (21 December 2026 – 1 January 2027), winter (8 – 19 February 2027), spring (22 March – 2 April 2027), and summer (5 July – 13 August 2027).

The campus is located at Erlenstrasse 15 in Basel. It includes a playground and dedicated spaces for student activities, such as the school grounds where students engage in collaborative projects. The school operates as a day school with supervision provided between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The school provides a range of extracurricular activities to complement the academic day, including lunch, homework supervision, and before- and after-school care. Students can participate in various leisure activities and clubs, with flexible drop-off and pickup times available. Additionally, the school organizes special projects, such as the student-led conversion of a post bus into a learning space and participation in Model United Nations (SISMUN) conferences.
