SMA Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School (ABBS) Surakarta is an Islamic bilingual high school and the first Islamic Cambridge school in Surakarta, Central Java. It implements a bilingual system, utilizing English as the medium of instruction for almost all subjects to prepare students for global competition.

Teaching approach
The school's educational philosophy focuses on developing a generation that is intelligent, innovative, and possesses noble character (akhlakul karimah). It aims to integrate Islamic values (IMTAQ) with science and technology (IPTEK) while fostering an international outlook. This vision is supported by five core pillars: English, Religious School, ICT-Based Learning, Character Building, and Multiple Intelligences.
Programmes
The school offers three specialized academic pathways alongside the national curriculum: the Cambridge Class Program (CCP), the Tahfidz Class Program (TCP), and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Class Program. In the CCP, students study additional Cambridge International AS & A Level syllabi in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry to prepare for exams in Grade XII. The TCP focuses on Quranic recitation, memorization, and retention, while the ICT program covers web programming, network installation, Mikrotik configuration, and Arduino computational intelligence. Instruction is bilingual, using English for all subjects except Islamic Education, Indonesian, Arabic, and Javanese.
Outcomes
Graduates are prepared to enter international classes and International Undergraduate Programs (IUP) at top domestic universities, such as Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Indonesia, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, as well as overseas institutions. Alumni have successfully secured placements in competitive fields like medicine at Universitas Airlangga and law at Universitas Gadjah Mada. Student achievements also include high scores on the Academic Ability Test (TKA) and international accolades, such as a silver medal at the 2025 International Biology Olympiad in the Philippines.
