The Swedish School in London is an accredited, not-for-profit international school offering education from preschool through to sixth form. It provides a bilingual curriculum that combines the Swedish national framework with the unique cultural and educational opportunities of London.

Teaching approach

The school is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation that prioritises student wellbeing and academic excellence. Its core values of respect, kindness, and empathy underpin a community-focused environment that aims to develop independent, confident, and resilient individuals. The school serves as a bridge between Sweden and the UK, fostering a bilingual and international perspective.

Programmes

The school follows the Swedish national curriculum across three main stages: Early Years (ages 2–5), Main School (ages 6–16), and Sixth Form (ages 16–19). The Main School programme is divided into Lower School (Förskoleklass–Year 3), Middle School (Years 4–6), and Upper School (Years 7–9), with a focus on bilingualism in Swedish and English. Pupils in the Main School do not sit GCSEs, instead undergoing continuous evaluation and Swedish national assessments, with a guaranteed place at the Sixth Form for those who complete Grade 9.

Outcomes

The school consistently achieves results well above the Swedish national average in national assessments. Alumni have progressed to prestigious universities globally, including the University of Cambridge, London School of Economics, Imperial College London, Princeton University, and various Swedish institutions such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Lund University. The school has also received an 'Outstanding' rating from Ofsted for 14 consecutive years.

About the campus

The school operates across two sites: the Barnes campus, which houses the Preschool, Primary, and Secondary school, and the Kew campus, which hosts the Sixth Form at The National Archives. The Barnes site is located at 82 Lonsdale Road, while the Sixth Form is situated at Bessant Drive, Kew.
