The York School is an independent, co-ed, International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in midtown Toronto, serving students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. It is recognized as the first English-speaking school in Canada to offer the full IB program across all grade levels.

Programmes

The latter allows students in Grades 11 and 12 to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while completing a flexible, IB-recognized course load. Admissions
The York School accepts applications for students from JK to Grade 12, with an application deadline of December 1, 2025, for the 2026-27 academic year. About the campus
The York School operates two urban campuses in midtown Toronto near St. Clair Avenue. The Junior School (JK–Grade 5) at 1639 Yonge Street includes a gymnasium, art and music rooms, a cafeteria, and an outdoor classroom, with renovations underway to add a second gymnasium, STEAM learning spaces, and a larger dining hall by August 2026. The Middle and Senior School campus (Grades 6–12) at 1320 Yonge Street features specialized science labs, a library, a fitness centre, a drama room, an athletic commons, and the Leigh Family Centre for Wellbeing.
Co-curriculars
The school offers a wide array of co-curricular clubs and community initiatives designed to round out the student experience. Students participate in spirit houses, awareness campaigns, and various clubs that foster engagement and relationship-building. Additionally, the school maintains a robust athletic program with 48 competitive teams, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross-country, and flag football, with many teams competing in CISAA and OFSAA championships.






Struan RobertsonHead of SchoolStruan brings 20 years of experience in the independent and international school systems in his role as Head of School. Prior to York, Struan served as Head of School at Lakefield College School in Ontario and as an Elementary School Principal at International School Bangkok in Thailand. Struan has a Masters from the State University of New York (SUNY), a B.Ed. from the University of Windsor and a BA from Dalhousie University.
Justin MedvedAssociate Head, Academic InnovationJustin comes to the York School with almost two decades of independent and international school experience. Having taught in the UK, Africa and Asia Justin is connected to a global network of 21st century educators and thought leaders. Armed with a Master of Arts in Educational Technology Justin keeps an eye on the future to ensure that York School classrooms remain connected to the ideas, tools and opportunities that are happening beyond them.
Elissa Kline-BeberAssociate Head, WellbeingElissa Kline-Beber is a clinical social worker with 25 years of experience working with children and families. Elissa received her BSW at McGill University and her MSW at the University of Toronto. Elissa has trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Sara SankariJunior School PrincipalSara joins the York School with a record of over 15 years in the realm of international education, she brings a wealth of expertise and a global perspective to our school community. She has served as a Math Coach, PYP Coordinator, PYP inspector and workshop leader, Associate Head of Lower School, and Head of Lower School at the Dwight School in Dubai.
Kathryn BarnesMiddle & Senior School PrincipalKathryn Barnes is an experienced K-12 educational leader with two decades of experience in Independent Schools. She holds a B.Kin, B.Ed and a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Policy development from OISE, and has completed an Instructional Leadership Certificate with Harvard's Graduate School of Education.

Janet MacMillanChief Financial OfficerJanet MacMillan is a CPA, CMA and a graduate of Queen’s University. With over 15 years of experience, Janet began her career in education administration at Crescent School and was the Director of Finance at The University of St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto immediately prior to joining The York School in 2018.
