Teaching approach

The school’s vision is to provide an education that enables students to understand the world and change it for the better. It promotes a liberal and inclusive community that values 'Tallis Habits'—being inquisitive, collaborative, persistent, disciplined, and imaginative. The school expects students to demonstrate kindness, respect, fairness, honesty, and optimism within a hard-working atmosphere.

Programmes

The curriculum is structured around 'Threshold Concepts' and includes Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), and a large Sixth Form (Post-16). Subject areas include Business & ICT, Computing, English & Philosophy, Design & Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences, Languages, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Science, and Visual & Media Arts. The Sixth Form offers a combination of A-level and Level 3 BTEC courses, while Key Stage 4 students may also pursue BTEC qualifications, such as the Level 1/2 Tech Award in Sport.

Outcomes

The Sixth Form achieves high levels of university entry, with many students securing places at Russell Group universities and Oxbridge. Additionally, over 35 students annually progress to competitive places at art and performing arts colleges. The school holds Artsmark Platinum status and has received multiple curriculum awards from the Prince's Teaching Institute.

The school operates a 32.5-hour compulsory school week, running from 08:30 to 15:05. The academic year includes a series of scheduled parents' evenings for each year group, typically held between 15:45 and 18:45, and a structured reporting schedule where updates are uploaded to the MyChildatSchool (MCAS) portal.
