The school is a non-denominational Christian institution founded on the principles of academic rigour, discipline, and Christ-centeredness. While it operates on a foundation of Christian values, it welcomes students of all faiths and emphasizes tolerance, respect for diverse beliefs, and the development of empathy and ethical behavior.

AIS offers the full continuum of International Baccalaureate programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for grades 1-5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 6-10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for grades 11-12. The Early Years programme serves children from 8 months to 6 years old, focusing on inquiry-based learning and student agency.

Graduates earn an internationally recognized IB Diploma and have secured admissions to prestigious global institutions, including Cornell University, MIT, Johns Hopkins University, NYU, and the University of Toronto. The Class of 2025 earned over $2.7 million in scholarships and financial aid for undergraduate study.

The school maintains a Learning Resource Center (LRC) to provide support for students who require assistance to succeed in their academic studies. Additionally, a College Guidance and Wellbeing Department offers professional, ethical, and confidential counseling to nurture emotionally stable students.

The school accepts applications for Early Years through Grade 12 regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or nationality. Applicants aged 1-3 years undergo an observation, while those aged 4 and above are required to complete numeracy, literacy, and science assessments. All previous school records must be submitted in English.

Located five minutes from Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the campus features boarding facilities for students aged 11 and older. The school provides libraries, canteen and dining services, and sports and fitness areas, including space for yoga. Additional amenities include stationery services and various residential halls for boarding students.

Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities, including performing arts, music, visual arts, sports, and community service. Notable events and initiatives include talent shows, sports festivals, wellness weeks, ethnic pride days, and theatrical productions such as an adaptation of The Lion King.
