Al Qamar Academy was an innovation-driven micro-school in Chennai, India, that provided a unique educational experience for over a decade. It integrated Montessori methodology, Islamic studies, and independent learning to prepare students for national and international academic success.

Teaching approach

Al Qamar Academy focuses on child-oriented pedagogy that combines Islamic tarbiyah with independent learning. The school aims to nurture leaders and change-makers by stimulating curiosity, developing critical and logical thinking, and honing oral and written expression. It maintains a stress-free environment by eliminating homework and exams, encouraging students to complete all academic work during school hours.

Programmes

The school follows the Montessori methodology for primary years (ages 2.5 to 12) and utilizes the Edexcel IGCSE curriculum for middle school. The core curriculum includes Islamic Studies, Arabic, Tilawah, and Tahfeez. Academic offerings feature inquiry-based science workshops, higher-order thinking math classes, and a Self-Directed Learning (SDL) program.

Outcomes

Students have achieved high rankings in national benchmarks, including the Edexcel Primary level Achievement exams and EI Asset national assessments, with many ranking in the top 10 percentile in English. Alumni have gained admission to institutions such as Stanley Medical College, the National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER), and UTM Malaysia. Additionally, students have authored published novels, won national writing prizes, and been recognized as Asset Talent Scholars.
