CGK International School

CGK International School is a global learning community dedicated to discovering and pursuing happiness. Its educational approach is centered on inquiry, critical thinking, and self-expression, incorporating the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB). The school values the development of non-cognitive skills, such as communication and emotional maturity, alongside academic growth.

The school offers a continuum of education from preschool through high school, with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for preschool and elementary (Grades 1-5) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for middle school (Grades 6-9). The curriculum is transdisciplinary and inquiry-based, emphasizing project-based learning (PBL) and balancing English and Japanese instruction. High school education is scheduled to open in April 2028.

The school aims to nurture internationally-minded individuals who possess critical thinking skills, self-expression, and a spirit of inquiry. It focuses on whole-person education to help students become lifelong learners who can forge their own paths and contribute to a better world. The school provides pathways for students to pursue further education, including study abroad programs starting from age two, with a mandatory one-year study abroad for middle school students in the 7th grade.

The school maintains a stable staffing structure that includes licensed childcare teachers and emphasizes high staff retention. It utilizes a "Contact Book" application for daily communication with parents, allowing for the sharing of photos and videos regarding student activities. The school also provides a 12+4-year continuum of education from age 2 through high school graduation.

The school holds open school sessions and information sessions for prospective families. The admission process includes an application form, followed by a brief interview and behavioral observation with the parents and child. Enrollment is secured upon payment of fees, and midterm enrollment may be possible depending on availability. Parents do not need to be proficient in English or Japanese for their child to be admitted.

The school operates year-round with core childcare hours from 8:30 to 17:00 and extended care available from 8:00 to 18:30. It observes short long-term breaks, including Golden Week, summer, winter, and spring vacations. Seasonal schools, such as Summer, Spring, and Winter schools, are held for elementary students.

The school operates two campuses in Yokohama: the Bashamichi Campus (Age 2-3) and the Kannai Campus (Age 4-Grade 12). The Kannai Campus occupies multiple floors (2-7F, 9F) and provides facilities for preschool, elementary, and middle school students. Both campuses are located within walking distance of major train stations, including Bashamichi, Nihon-ōdōri, and Kannai stations.

The school offers a variety of enrichment and extracurricular activities, including swimming lessons in a private pool, P.E. classes, and programming lessons. Students participate in project-based learning (PBL) activities, such as the "Ice Cream Project," "City Planner," and "Postal Worker" role-play. Additionally, the school hosts seasonal schools, a soccer club, a mindfulness club, and annual events like the school festival.
