Yokosuka Bilingual School

The school is founded on the principles of dual-language immersion, cultural diversity, and inquiry-based learning. It aims to bridge the cultural gap between American and Japanese communities in Yokosuka by fostering empathy, critical thinking, and global leadership. The school offers a comprehensive bilingual pathway including preschool (ages 1-3), PreKinder (ages 4-5), and an elementary school (ages 5-12) currently serving kindergarten through fourth grade. The curriculum integrates Japanese standards—including Japanese math and language arts—with American-standard English instruction. Beyond core subjects, the school provides inquiry-based learning in science, programming, social studies, arts, music, and physical education, often in collaboration with the local dental college and community partners. An after-school program and an academy for Japanese language and academic skills are also available for students and adults.

The school offers private tutoring services for any subject. Additionally, before and after-school care is available at a separate location approximately 10 minutes away from the elementary school, with staff providing transportation for students.

The enrollment process begins with an inquiry, followed by a school tour and a trial lesson to ensure the environment is a good fit for the child. The final steps include an enrollment orientation before the student's first day. The school encourages active parental involvement in school events, instruction, and field trips.

The school remains open during both American and Japanese holidays. On American holidays, the school operates but does not conduct academic curriculum.

The elementary school is located on the campus of Kanagawa Dental University in the Clinical Research building. The facility provides outdoor space for break times, and students have access to the Dental College cafeteria for lunch. The school maintains a close affiliation with the university, which supports the school's programming and science instruction.
