Colegio Base

Base International School is a private, non-denominational, and independent school inspired by the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, focusing on critical thinking, intellectual freedom, and mutual respect. It promotes a 'Culture of Care' where student wellbeing, emotional balance, and active safeguarding are prioritised alongside academic rigour. The school emphasises a horizontal, dialogue-driven approach to education, aiming to develop responsible global citizens through a student-centred, international perspective.

The school offers a continuous educational pathway from Preschool (ages 1–5) through Primary (ages 6–11), Secondary (ages 12–15), and the final two years of Bachillerato. Students can choose between the Spanish Bachillerato or the IB Diploma Programme, and may also pursue an American Dual Diploma from Year 8. The curriculum is trilingual, with English as a primary language of instruction, and includes the study of French or German from Year 5. Teaching methods are project-based and inquiry-driven, supported by the IB framework across all stages.

The school reports strong academic results, including a 100% pass rate in the 2025 university entrance exams and a 96% pass rate in the IB Diploma Programme. Graduates consistently gain admission to leading universities in Spain and internationally, pursuing degrees in fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, and Business. Students also achieve high levels of language proficiency, with 100% pass rates in official Cambridge C2, DELF (French), and Goethe (German) examinations.

The school maintains a full in-house Counselling and Psychopedagogy Department that provides personalised attention to students. Support is integrated into the daily life of the school, with reinforcement and enrichment programmes tailored to individual needs. The school also employs a dedicated Family Coordinator to support families and a designated nurse on-site during school hours.

The admissions process is a personalised, conversation-based experience. It begins with an initial enquiry, followed by a call or meeting with the admissions team to discuss the family's needs. For students from Primary onwards, the process includes a trial day at the school to ensure a good fit with the educational project. Enrolment is formalised after these steps, with ongoing support provided by a dedicated Family Coordinator.

The academic year is organised into three terms: the first from 8 September to 19 December, the second from 8 January to 26 March, and the third from 7 April to 23 June. The school day for all stages begins at 9:00, with staggered pick-up times. Free extended hours are available from 7:30 to 9:00 and from 17:00 to 18:30 for all students.

The school is located on a 31,000 m² campus in La Moraleja, which includes 20,000 m² of sports facilities such as an indoor swimming pool, two gymnasiums, a sports hall, seven basketball courts, an artificial-turf football pitch, and an athletics track. The campus features an Arts Centre (opened in 2024) with an art and design studio, a Black Box theatre, a dance studio, and music spaces. Science facilities include laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Technology, as well as a Primary Science Lab. The grounds also incorporate vegetable gardens, a pond, and composting areas for environmental education.

The school offers over 20 after-school activities, with approximately two-thirds of students participating. Options include sports (football, volleyball, athletics, judo, rhythmic gymnastics), performing arts (theatre in English, music, choir, ballet, flamenco), and enrichment (robotics, chess, ceramics, art). Additionally, the school hosts media outlets like Radio Base and Base TV, and provides opportunities for international experiences such as Model United Nations (UNESMUN) and student forums.
