Teaching approach

The school is founded on a belief in the educational and economic benefits of a multilingual and multicultural education. Its mission is to provide a broad, challenging, and internationally minded curriculum with a specific emphasis on Modern European Languages and the Sciences. The school fosters a community based on mutual respect, global perspective, motivation, enquiry, and community, aiming to develop students into responsible, engaged global citizens.

Programmes

The school delivers a bilingual curriculum where primary pupils spend half the week in English and half in a stream language (French, German, or Spanish). In the secondary years, subjects such as History and Geography are taught in the stream language. The 6th form offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which includes six subject groups, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, the Extended Essay, and the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) component.

Outcomes

The school is an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme as its end qualification for students aged 16–18. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for university and working life, with a high percentage of IB students historically progressing to top-tier universities. Primary students are prepared for the secondary curriculum, with the goal that all graduates are fluent and literate in at least three languages.

Admissions

The school is an all-through, state-funded free school for students aged 4 to 18. Admissions are managed through a ranking system, and the school cannot make decisions based on background or culture. While there is no school uniform, the school provides free school dinners for all children in Key Stage 1. Prospective families can apply for entry, including limited places available for Year 12.

Calendar

The school operates on a unique calendar that does not necessarily align with the Oxfordshire County Council schedule. To compensate for a summer holiday that is two weeks longer than the local authority, the school day is extended. The academic year is divided into three terms: Autumn, Spring, and Summer, with scheduled staff training days throughout the year.
