Forest Farm School

Part of Blenheim Schools

Updated July 2026

Oxford Millwood School is an all-ability, independent school that combines small class sizes, outdoor learning, and a rigorous academic curriculum to nurture the potential of every child. It provides a highly personalised, human-centred approach to education, specifically supporting pupils who may not have thrived in larger or more traditional settings.

Teaching approach

The school is built on the belief that potential is universal and that creativity is equal to academic ability. It rejects narrow definitions of achievement, focusing instead on fostering freedom, structure, respect, and genuine connection to help pupils become confident, resilient learners. The educational approach is grounded in the principles that nature is a powerful teacher, that children learn best when they feel safe and understood, and that mixed-age, child-led learning builds community.

Programmes

The school offers a continuous educational journey from Nursery through to Year 11. The Early Years provision follows the EYFS Framework with a focus on hands-on, child-centred learning. The Primary stage (Reception to Year 6) blends the National Curriculum with project-based learning, featuring specialist teaching in Music, Drama, PE, Spanish, Computing, and Forest School. The Senior School (Years 7–11) provides a values-driven curriculum, with Key Stage 3 covering a broad range of subjects and Key Stage 4 offering GCSEs, Functional Skills, ASDAN, Art Awards, Food & Cookery, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. A structured careers programme is integrated into the curriculum, including impartial guidance and a one-week work experience placement in Key Stage 4.

It maintains strong SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) expertise to support diverse learners. The school’s nurturing environment is a core component of its provision, having received a 'Significant Strength' commendation for pupil nurture in a recent inspection.

Admissions

The school operates an all-ability admissions process that avoids traditional entrance examinations. The journey typically involves an initial enquiry, a personal tour or attendance at an open day, and a registration process, followed by a final offer stage where the school and family ensure the placement is a suitable fit. Once administrative requirements and a deposit are completed, the school works closely with families to facilitate a smooth transition for the pupil.

Calendar

The school hosts an open day on Thursday, 21st May, from 10am to 2pm. Prospective families are encouraged to book visits to experience the school in action.
