The Independent School of Jakarta (ISJ) is a British international school in South Jakarta offering the English National Curriculum for pupils aged 2 to 18. It is part of The Schools Trust and is staffed by 100% UK-qualified teachers.

Teaching approach

The school is built on the principle that every child should be known by name and character, fostering a family-like environment. It prioritises high-quality teaching, safeguarding, and a restorative approach to behaviour management that treats mistakes as opportunities for growth. The school's values are formalised in a School Charter, emphasising kindness, respect, and responsibility.

Programmes

The school follows the English National Curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to GCSEs and A-Levels. The academic journey is divided into Pre-Prep (ages 2–6), Prep School (ages 7–13), and Senior School (ages 14–18). Specialist teaching is provided in subjects including music, art, drama, PE, swimming, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin Chinese.

Outcomes

ISJ pupils perform significantly above the international average in English and Mathematics, placing the school in the top 10% of international schools globally. The school prepares students for GCSE and A-Level qualifications, with the goal of facilitating entry into leading universities worldwide.
