International Spanish Language Academy

The school aims to empower the whole child by nurturing personal growth, strong character, academic excellence, and a global vision. It emphasizes a play-based approach in its early years, focusing on inquiry, discovery, and the development of critical thinking skills. The community values international-mindedness and social connectedness as core components of the student experience.

The school offers a full Spanish immersion K-5 program and the fee-based El Nido de ISLA pre-k program for children ages 3.5 to 5. The curriculum integrates the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Early Years Programme, focusing on inquiry-based learning. Specialist subjects, including music, art, and physical education, are taught in Spanish to ensure full language immersion. The pre-k curriculum also incorporates the Creative Curriculum and Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Programming.

The school employs a school social worker and a school-based therapist to support student well-being. Additionally, the school utilizes Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors to provide academic assistance.

ISLA operates a lottery-based enrollment process for its K-5 program, with applications accepted during an open enrollment period. Preference is given to applicants who meet the deadline, have siblings currently enrolled, or are children of staff members. If applications exceed available spaces, a random lottery is conducted, and a waiting list is maintained for any remaining applicants. Kindergarten applicants must be five years old by September 1 of the enrollment year.

The school provides downloadable academic calendars for the current and upcoming school years. Families may also subscribe to specific calendars for school events, board meetings, and PTO activities.

The campus is located in Edina, Minnesota. It includes dedicated spaces for learning and support services, with maintenance and operations staff overseeing the school grounds.

The school offers the Aventuras extended day care program for students. Additionally, the school hosts summer programming and various extra-curricular activities to supplement the academic experience.
