Liberty Woodland School

Liberty Woodland School is a progressive, independent institution that prioritises outdoor education, emotional intelligence, and experiential, project-based learning. It aims to develop internationally minded, resilient young people by fostering a deep connection with nature and environmentalism. The school emphasizes academic rigour alongside the development of life and character skills to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.

The primary curriculum is structured around 'Key Areas of Competence'—Roots, Trunk, and Crown—covering subjects including maths, literacy, science, geography, history, creative arts, and technology. In the secondary school, students follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme, which emphasizes critical thinking, cultural awareness, and global perspectives. The school utilizes a four-day academic week (Monday to Thursday) to allow for a range of activities and personal development.

The school provides support for students with special educational needs (SEN). It maintains a dedicated team of support staff and learning associates who work alongside teachers to foster an inclusive environment. Small group instruction for core subjects like maths and literacy allows for highly targeted learning and the use of the 'zone of proximal development' to challenge students making accelerated progress.

The school accepts students aged 4 to 16, with the main intake occurring in September. The admissions process for both primary and secondary levels begins with an inquiry followed by a school visit, which allows families to experience the campus and the school's educational approach. The school offers fully funded bursary places for families unable to pay fees, and prospective families with nursery-aged children can attend 'Stay and Play' sessions.

The school operates on a three-term academic year. The Summer Term 2026 runs from 13th April to 2nd July, the Autumn Term 2026 from 1st September to 8th December, and the Spring Term 2027 from 6th January to 25th March. The Summer Term 2027 begins on 12th April and ends on 1st July, with various half-term breaks and inset days scheduled throughout the year.

The school is situated on a 3-acre campus in Morden, South West London, featuring the Primary School at Morden Lodge and a secondary space at Ivy Lodge. The grounds include a multi-use games area (MUGA) available for hire and outdoor learning environments that support the school's focus on nature-based education. The campus is accessed via a wood chip path from the car park near Morden Hall Park.
