Teaching approach

Founded in 1863 as a Uniting Church school, Newington College aims to provide a modern liberal education rooted in Christian values. Its core vision is to develop students with 'Great Hearts' (courage, integrity, kindness), 'Inspired Minds' (curiosity, open-mindedness, rigor), and 'Strong Wings' (critical thinking, communication, creativity). The school emphasizes the development of the whole student, balancing academic rigor with pastoral care and service learning.

Programmes

The academic program spans from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12, culminating in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and International Baccalaureate (IB) pathways. The curriculum integrates traditional subjects—such as Mathematics, English, and Science—with a focus on critical thinking, ethics, and communication. Specialized programs include a Year 9 service learning experience at Eungai Creek and a leadership development sequence that progresses from student representative roles in primary years to House Prefect duties in Year 12.

Outcomes

The school focuses on preparing students for the future through a combination of academic excellence, critical thinking, and character development. Students are encouraged to achieve their best in final examinations while developing the traits of 'Great Hearts, Inspired Minds, and Strong Wings.' The school publishes annual reports detailing educational and financial performance measures.
