Northleigh House School

Northleigh House School is a child-led setting that aims to provide a sanctuary for students who have experienced trauma or bullying in mainstream education. It operates on the belief that learning can only occur when the "whole" person is supported, focusing on emotional recovery and personal development alongside academic progress. The school environment is designed to be calm, flexible, and non-judgmental, allowing students to learn at their own pace.

The school offers a personally negotiated curriculum that includes GCSEs, Functional Skills in English and Maths, and Entry Level qualifications. Academic subjects include Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Psychology, Computing, PE, and Citizenship. Additionally, the school provides vocational and creative pathways such as Cambridge Technicals, ASDAN qualifications, and various levels of Art, Photography, and Drama. Students may attend on a full-time basis or through a flexible learning programme with reduced timetables to aid emotional recovery.

The school prioritises the emotional well-being of its students, with a dedicated wellbeing team, mentors, and counsellors. It employs specialists in dyslexia and speech and language therapy to support individual needs. The staff includes an EHCP/SEND manager and designated safeguarding leads to ensure a nurturing and supportive environment.

The school operates on a three-term structure (Autumn, Spring, and Summer). The academic year typically runs from early September to early July, with half-term breaks in October, February, and May. Inset days are scheduled throughout the year.

The school is located in a former family home, providing a sanctuary-like environment. The campus includes facilities for organic gardening and animal care, as well as dedicated spaces for art, photography, textiles, woodwork, and cooking. The school also features a therapy dog programme.

The school offers a range of enrichment activities including organic gardening, animal care, and local field trips. Students also participate in personal development programmes, horse riding, business start-up projects, and outdoor adventure. Creative and practical pursuits include drama, music, dance, textiles, woodwork, and cooking.
