RIS Swiss Section – Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok is a premier German-speaking international school in Bangkok, Thailand, offering a curriculum blended from Swiss and German educational models. It is the only school worldwide approved by both the Swiss and German governments.

Programmes

The school provides a German-speaking education for students from Early Years through Secondary School. The curriculum is designed to foster multilingualism, with students gaining fluency in German and English while acquiring skills in Thai, French, or Spanish. The academic pathway is structured to prepare students for higher education, including the Swiss Bilingual Matura, which serves as a gateway to universities in German-speaking countries.

Learning support

The school provides comprehensive academic support, including German as a Foreign Language (DaF) for students up to Grade 7 and French support for those with limited proficiency. A 'HaLe' program offers homework and study support for students in Grades 7–10 through weekly 90-minute sessions. Additionally, the school offers private tutoring in specific subjects and personalized assistance for developmental, motor, language, and social needs.

Admissions

The school accepts students of all nationalities with year-round entry. Non-German speakers are eligible for admission up to Grade 3, while applicants for Grade 4 and above must demonstrate German language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The application process involves an initial registration, an admissions review, a final application with required documentation, and a final assessment by the Head of Department, which may include academic evaluations or trial days.

Calendar

The school operates on a bi-semester academic schedule, with the first semester running from August to December and the second from January to June. The calendar includes specific holiday periods, such as a February break, and is subject to updates regarding compensation days and holiday adjustments. Updated versions of the school calendar are provided annually in English, German, and Thai.

About the campus

The campus features over 30 amenities, including five football pitches, two tennis courts, two indoor squash courts, and two multifunction sports halls. Aquatic facilities include a 25-meter saltwater pool and a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool with eight lanes. The school also provides a 300-seat Performing Arts Center, four libraries (one German, three English), three children’s playgrounds, a fitness center, an on-campus clinic, a canteen, and two coffee shops.

Co-curriculars

The school offers a variety of extracurricular activities and an extended day program to supplement the academic curriculum. Students have access to the BVB International Academy – Thailand and a wide range of sports, arts, and cultural programs.
