The school's vision is to graduate students who are pious, responsible, reformative, and high-achieving. Its educational mission focuses on fostering awareness of life's purpose, optimizing student potential, encouraging environmental and social care, and developing global citizenship through principles like learning by doing and collaborative, self-paced mastery learning.

The academic program combines the Indonesian National Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) with the school's specialized curriculum, which features a minimum of 15 hours of Al Quran study per week and computational coding classes. Instruction is delivered through four class types: Self Managed Learning (SMP), Self Directed Learning (SMA), Self Organised Learning Environments (SOLE) for collaborative inquiry, and dedicated consultation and tutorial sessions. All learning is integrated into the "Sekolahku" Learning Management System, which students use to manage their daily schedules and evaluations.

The school holds an "A" accreditation and has been recognized as an Adiwiyata School and a pioneer Child-Friendly School. Additionally, SMA Al-Hikmah was selected as a national "Sekolah Penggerak" (2022–2025), and its students have won gold medals at the World Invention Competition and Exhibition in Malaysia, the National Applied Science Project Olympiad, and various national robotics and karate tournaments.

The school supports diverse learning needs through a "Mastery Learning" approach with no minimum passing grade (KKM), allowing students to complete coursework at their own pace. Academic support is further provided through intensive tutorial and consultation classes, as well as specialized preparation for state universities (PTN), official schools (Kedinasan), and International Undergraduate Programs (IUP) via tutoring, TOEFL/IELTS preparation, and physical fitness training.

Registration is conducted online through the school's portal and requires applicants to submit a family card, birth certificate, doctor's health certificate, and academic reports from grades 4 and 5. Prospective students must complete a selection process that includes a psychological test, academic test, Al Quran test, fitness test, and interview. Upon acceptance, families must pay initial fees covering infaq, development fees (DPP), and monthly tuition (BPP), with a 10% BPP discount offered for second and subsequent children.

For the 2025/2026 cycle, the registration period is scheduled from August 30 to October 24, 2025, with selection testing taking place on October 25–26, 2025. Results are announced on November 8, 2025, and accepted students must settle their initial educational fees within 10 working days of document verification.

The boarding campus includes residential dormitories such as Asrama Bung Tomo, Asrama Ahmad Dahlan, and Asrama Hasyim Asy'ari. The school is also equipped with a library and administrative facilities to support its educational programs.

Extracurricular activities are divided into compulsory and elective options. Compulsory activities include scouting and karate for boys, and culinary and fashion design for girls, while electives range from sports like basketball, futsal, and archery to robotics and the "Little Haytham" youth scientific club (KIR). Students also participate in the Tasmi Al-Quran memorization program with twice-weekly public recitations, daily English and Arabic language practice in the dorms, and international student exchange programs.
