St. Joseph's Institution

Founded in 1852 by the De La Salle Brothers, SJI is a Catholic school guided by the values of Faith, Service, and Community. The school aims to provide a holistic education that nurtures students to become persons of integrity and persons for others. It emphasizes learning how to learn and learning how to live, encouraging students to find purpose and passion in service to society.

SJI offers two primary academic tracks: a 4-year Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) programme and a 6-year Integrated Programme (IP). The IP track leads directly to the 2-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Years 5 and 6. The curriculum is structured across three levels of learning to balance academic foundation with inquiry-based and critical thinking skills.

The school provides a comprehensive student development programme, including the Josephian Formation Journey, which focuses on character formation and developing a moral compass. Pastoral care is a core component, with teachers acting as mentors to guide students in their personal and spiritual growth. A lay chaplaincy team is also available to support the Catholic needs of the school community.

SJI is an all-boys secondary school that offers the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) Programme and the Integrated Programme (IP). Female students may join the school at the Junior College level (Year 5) to pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Admission to Secondary 1 is based on merit via PSLE scores, while transfers and admissions for returning Singaporeans are subject to specific MOE exercises and entrance tests.

The school operates on a term-based academic year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with the school closed on weekends and public holidays. Operating hours for school suppliers and facilities may vary during school holidays.

The campus at 38 Malcolm Road includes a Performing Arts Centre, a Makerspace for innovation and hands-on learning, and a canteen designed for community building. Sports facilities include basketball courts, with ongoing plans for resurfacing and the installation of canopy structures to support physical education and outdoor play. The school also maintains science laboratories, art and music studios, and various CCA rooms.

The school offers a wide range of co-curricular activities (CCA) designed to complement academic learning and build resilience. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills through various platforms, including the Lasallian Leadership Training Camp and community-based leadership programmes.
