Tanarata International Schools

The school operates under the guiding philosophy of "Engaged, Prepared, Inspired," aiming to allow young minds to explore, experience, and learn to shape their future. It emphasizes adapting to global trends by integrating soft skills with hard skills, fostering critical thinking, and introducing interdisciplinary learning to prepare students for a post-capitalist, interconnected world.

The school follows the British National Curriculum, catering to students from Year 1 through Year 11 (ages 5 to 16) and leading to the Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level examinations. The academic program incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, such as combining history and geography into Cambridge Global Perspectives, and merging arts with design and sciences. Students also engage in practical STEM initiatives, such as a Year 8 project-based learning program where they design, build, and race solar-powered remote-controlled boats.

Students prepare for Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level certificate examinations, with the school tracking and publishing its CIE IGCSE results. Tanarata students have achieved recognition in external contests, including being named "Best in Country" in science competitions and reaching the finals of the SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award for their "Green Synergy" project.

The school provides support facilities dedicated to special needs children's education. Additionally, class sizes are restricted across all year groups to ensure that teachers and staff can provide each child with adequate individual attention.

Admission to the school requires an application fee of RM 900, followed by a one-time admission fee and a refundable deposit upon enrollment, both of which vary by year group from Year 1 through Year 11. Parents can schedule campus tours and meetings through the Admin Office, which is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on alternate Saturdays by prior appointment. To ensure personalized attention, the school restricts its class sizes and offers a 10% tuition discount for siblings of current students.

The academic year is divided into three terms: Term 1 runs from August to December, Term 2 from January to April, and Term 3 from April to July. Regular school hours are scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. Extra-curricular activities (ECAs) are conducted from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., starting in the second or third week of each term.

Sited on a landscaped five-acre campus featuring natural hill contours and a 100-meter by 20-meter lake, the school features air-conditioned primary and secondary classrooms. Facilities include natural science laboratories, music and drama rooms, creative and visual art and design rooms, an IT/audio-visual lab, and a library with separate junior and senior sections. For sports and recreation, the campus offers a swimming pool, a turf ground for field sports like soccer and hockey, outdoor courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball, indoor badminton courts, and a play yard. Dining is accommodated at the Watersides Café, an open-air waterfront cafeteria overlooking the lake.

The school offers extra-curricular activities (ECAs) on weekday afternoons, alongside annual events such as the Heritage Fiesta, Tanarata’s Got Talent, and the Swimming Gala. Students participate in performing arts productions, such as the Years 4 to 6 staging of "Pirates of the Curry Bean" in the school's multipurpose hall, and outdoor excursions like the Year 7 trip to Eagle Ranch. Students also participate in external competitions, including the FedEx Express / JA International Trade Challenge and the MyTiger Values Art Competition.
