Colegio Alegra

Alegra is a Christian-inspired school and a corporate work of Opus Dei, focusing on the moral, spiritual, and intellectual formation of its students. The school promotes values such as fortitude, joy, generosity, and a spirit of service, while respecting the personal freedom of all students. It aims to educate women who are committed to their families, professions, and communities, fostering a global outlook and a sense of social responsibility.

The school follows the English National Curriculum for Infants and Juniors (ages 3–10). For Secondary and Baccalaureate (ages 11–18), it is an IB World School delivering the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). The curriculum is enriched with specific programs such as the Neuromotor Program, the Cultural Project, the Humanities Program, and STEAM, with a strong emphasis on languages, public speaking, and interdisciplinary learning.

Alegra students achieve high academic standards, with the 2023 IB class achieving an average score of 33.3 out of 45. The school prepares students for entry into top universities, focusing on developing critical thinking, global competencies, and life-long skills. Graduates are encouraged to be leaders who contribute to society with a spirit of service.

The school provides a 'Departamento de Orientación' to support students. Teachers are trained to provide individualized learning, utilizing differentiation and leveling within the classroom to help students reach their full potential. The admissions process involves an application, a personal interview, and an admissions test. Prospective students participate in an Assessment Day, which includes an interview with a Key Stage Co-ordinator, a school tour, and a Trial Day in the classroom. Applicants must provide previous and current academic reports, letters of recommendation, and evidence of English proficiency; for the Diploma Programme, a minimum academic score of 8/10 is required.

The 3.8-hectare campus includes classrooms, sports facilities, and a library. The school environment is designed to support a holistic education, integrating technology and dedicated spaces for arts, music, and sports. Dining services and school bus routes are also provided.

Alegra offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports competitions, artistic activities, music, and cultural tours. Students participate in programs such as the Opera production, rock bands, speech and debate, and solidarity initiatives like 'Alegra for Others'. The school also utilizes a House system (Lions, Wolves, Horses, and Elephants) to foster leadership, teamwork, and service through various school-wide activities and competitions.
