VSA is guided by the motto "Value, Strive and Act," aiming to develop passionate, healthy, and accomplished bilingual learners who are globally engaged. The school emphasizes a holistic education that fosters emotional and physical well-being, character development, and intercultural understanding. It promotes the IB Learner Profile, encouraging students to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective.

VSA is a through-train IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). The primary section features a bilingual model where each class is taught by one English-speaking teacher and one Chinese-speaking teacher. The secondary curriculum is delivered primarily in English, supplemented by a strong Chinese language program, and focuses on developing higher-order thinking skills, adaptability, and social-emotional resilience.

The school is sensitive to students' individual needs and provides a range of support for those with language and learning requirements, physical or medical conditions, or social, emotional, and behavioral issues. VSA may require parents to facilitate a psychoeducational assessment to ensure the school can provide appropriate and comprehensive support for the student. Specialist teachers are available to assist with language learning and student support.

Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA) is an inclusive, non-discriminatory school that welcomes students regardless of gender, religion, race, sexuality, or nationality. The admissions process evaluates applicants based on their potential to benefit from the school's education, their communication skills in English and Chinese, and their performance in entrance assessments for Mathematics and literacy. Priority is given to candidates with strong ties to the VSA community, including debenture holders, children of staff, siblings of current students, and graduates of feeder kindergartens. Applicants must be Hong Kong Permanent Residents or hold a valid visa.

The school operates on a two-term academic year, typically running from late August to late June. Primary school hours are 8:25 am to 3:25 pm, and secondary school hours are 8:30 am to 3:40 pm, with early dismissal at 12:30 pm and 12:40 pm respectively on Wednesdays. The calendar includes scheduled breaks for the mid-term, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Easter, alongside standard Hong Kong public holidays.

Located in Aberdeen, the campus features specialized learning environments including facilities for Art, Music, Drama, Innovation and Technology, and Physical Education. The school provides a library and information literacy center and utilizes modern technology to support inquiry-based learning. Students in the secondary school are required to use a 1:1 MacBook for their studies.

VSA offers a wide range of co-curricular activities and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) clubs to support holistic development. These include opportunities for students to engage in sports, such as badminton and swimming, as well as robotics, mathematics competitions, and student leadership roles. These programs are designed to help students develop interests, build balance, and contribute to the school and wider community.
